In Midcoast Maine, there are a number of resources available for people in need of mental health services. This web page is intended to outline some of those services and how to access them.

Pen Bay Medical Center is in Rockport: 596-8000.

Mid-Coast Mental Health Center has offices in Rockland (701-4400) and Belfast (338-2295).

The common goal of PBMC and MCMHC is to provide quality mental health and substance abuse services to residents of the three Midcoast counties of Knox, Waldo and Lincoln.

Services include: children's case management; crisis response and stabilization; integrated mental health services in select primary care practices, schools and community-based settings; residential treatment for adults; and substance abuse counseling as well as outpatient psychiatry and therapy services in Rockland and Belfast.

If you don't find the information you need on this web page, please call 701-4400.

Crisis Services
888-568-1112 is the Mid-Coast Mental Health Crisis Line. The people answering this number, all day, every day, are trained to be able to direct an individual in crisis to the resources which can best help them.

Outpatient Psychiatry for adults and children
Patients are sometimes referred by their primary care physician, a child's school, a friend, or sometimes they refer themselves. In the Outpatient Psychiatry Department, patients are seen by a psychiatrist (a medical doctor who specializes in mental health problems) who may prescribe medication. If the doctor assesses that the patient may benefit from psychotherapy, a therapist may provide counseling services. To access these services in either Rockland or Belfast, please call 701-4400.

Counseling
Substance Abuse counseling is available through the Choice Skyward program at Mid-Coast Mental Health Center. Services offered are IOP (Intensive Outpatient Program, meeting four days per week), individual and other group counseling. To access services, please call 701-4400.

There is a program available through Mid-Coast Mental Health Center in conjunction with many Pen Bay primary care physicians called the Maine Integrated Health Collaborative. This program provides psychiatric consultation and mental health counseling with a licensed counselor or social worker to adults and children. Your primary care physician may refer you through this program. Call your PCP for a referral or contact Mid-Coast Mental Health Center at 701-4400.

Child Case Management
This program is designed to link children with mental health needs with an array of services which may be provided in their community, school or home. Referrals to this program are made by the family, a mental health provider, school personnel or family physician. Please contact Mid-Coast Mental Health Center at 701-4400.

Residential Programs
People with chronic mental illness may be unable to successfully live independently in the community. Mid-Coast Mental Health Center has five group homes and one apartment complex that is staffed round the clock to assist residents. Medication is monitored and administered. Access to these homes is facilitated through the state mental health system. Questions about this residential program should be directed to Chris Watts at 701-4421.

Inpatient Psychiatric Services
The Psychiatric and Addiction Recovery Center (PARC) at Pen Bay Medical Center is an acute in-patient psychiatric and medical detoxification treatment for patients 18 years of age and older. PARC is a locked 18-bed unit. Patients are treated both on a voluntary and an involuntary basis. Phone: 596-8390. Click for more information about PARC.
