Pen Bay Medical Center Receives National Top Hospital Award, Scores “A” for Patient Safety The Leapfrog Group’s annual list of Top Hospitals was announced on December 4 in Baltimore, Maryland and included Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. The announcement came at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting, focusing on transparency as the key to improved hospital safety, and Top Hospital Awards. The Leapfrog Group is an independent group that gathers national and publicly reported information on quality measures, resources and efficiency. In addition to the Top Hospital designation, Pen Bay was honored with a renewed “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group in November 2012. Pen Bay's A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM. The A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals are based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families. “To be selected as a top hospital in the nation is truly an exceptional honor. I am proud of Pen Bay Medical Center and pleased that our commitment to our community to provide excellent patient care has been rewarded with national recognition. This is an important milestone in our journey toward Excellence Always," said Pen Bay Healthcare president and CEO Wade Johnson.
