    Clinical Research
    Medication and device trials at PBMC

    Pen Bay Medical Center has been involved in clinical research since the 1980’s. In 2008 the clinical research department was established. In 2013 PBMC became an affiliate of Eastern Maine Medical Center Cancer Care for the purposes of our patients having access to a variety of National Cancer Institute research studies right here in Rockport.

    The department is currently coordinating clinical research in a variety of areas.

    2013 "A" Hospital Safety Score
    Pen Bay receives 3rd consecutive "A" score

    Maine Ranked First in the Nation for Hospital Safety 

    Pen Bay Medical Center was recognized with an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit run by employers and other large purchasers of health benefits. The A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM, the A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents, and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety. The first and only hospital safety rating to be peer-reviewed in the Journal of Patient Safety (April 2013), Hospital Safety Score is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.

    This is Pen Bay’s third consecutive “A” score and places Maine as first in the nation for hospital safety. Pen Bay Medical Center was among 16 to receive an "A" ranking of the 20 Maine hospitals surveyed by The Leapfrog Group.

    Pen Bay Medical Center Receives National Top Hospital Award, Scores “A” for Patient Safety

    The Leapfrog Group’s annual list of Top Hospitals was announced on December 4 in Baltimore, Maryland and included Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, Maine. The announcement came at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting, focusing on transparency as the key to improved hospital safety, and Top Hospital Awards. The Leapfrog Group is an independent group that gathers national and publicly reported information on quality measures, resources and efficiency.

    In addition to the Top Hospital designation, Pen Bay was honored with a renewed “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group in November 2012.  Pen Bay's A score was awarded in the latest update to the Hospital Safety ScoreSM. The A, B, C, D or F scores assigned to U.S. hospitals are based on preventable medical errors, injuries accidents and infections. The Hospital Safety Score was compiled under the guidance of the nation’s leading experts on patient safety and is designed to give the public information they can use to protect themselves and their families.
