Welcome to the Knox Center for Long Term Care. Since 1976, we have been caring for members of Midcoast families and providing them with a loving home where they receive the sophisticated technical care they may require and the dignity and respect that they deserve.

SKILLED REHABILITATION
skilled_rehabRehabilitation therapy is an important part of recovery following joint replacement surgery, stroke, or other medical illnesses.  We work closely with you to develop a plan that will return you or your loved one to the highest level of functioning and an independent lifestyle.
Our trained staff work with you and your loved one to provide high quality care, including:
  • Consulting with our staff physician or nurse practitioner
  • Professional social workers to help with discharge planning
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapy
  • Cognitive therapy
  • Strength and balance training
  • Ceiling Track Gait – a device that helps build stability and strength
  • Wii Gaming System – a fun tool to improve balance and coordination
  • IV Therapy (if needed)

LONG TERM CARE
long_term_careAt the Knox Center’s Long Term Care unit, we focus on offering nursing care in a home-like setting. The Long Term Care unit is a safe and caring place to meet the needs of our patients and their families.

MEMORY CARE
memoryAt the Knox Center’s Memory Care unit, our only focus is caring for people with dementia.  Our goal is to make each day of your loved one’s life the best that we can. We do this by providing nursing home level care in a safe, home-like setting, offering support and resources for both you and your loved one.
Our trained staff work with you and your loved one to provide high quality care, including:
  • On-site physician and nurse practitioner
  • Staff who have specialized training in dementia
  • Nurses who are available 24 hours a day
  • Occupational, physical and speech therapy as needed
  • Music and activities tailored to the needs of the residents
  • Wheelchair accessible transportation
  • Hospice and respite care

Victorian homes dot the tree-lined streets, children play in a park next door, the public library is just around the corner and the ocean is a short walk away.In addition to providing the highest standard of care, we aim to offer complete comfort and safety for our patients and their families.

Visiting Hours:

The Knox Center does not have set visiting hours, and encourages friends and family to visit when they can. The Knox Center will inform visitors on an individual basis if there are concerns or issues with the times that they are visiting. Controlled pets are welcome to visit patients at the Knox Center.

Directions:

From Bangor (Route 1): (60+ miles)  Traveling south on Route 1, drive through Camden, Rockport and enter Rockland. At the traffic light at Maverick Street (beside McDonald’s), turn right. This road is also posted as Route 1A Bypass. On Maverick Street proceed to a flashing yellow traffic light taking a left onto Broadway and continuing on Route 1A Bypass. Travel south on Broadway going straight through 2 traffic lights. At the third light, take a left onto Limerock Street. Take the second left onto White Street. The Knox Center is located at 6 White Street. The main entrance to the Long Term Care Unit and Memory Unit is under the covered drive. The main entrance to the Skilled Rehabilitation Unit is on the lower level at the base of the covered drive.

From Augusta (Route 17): (45 miles) Leaving Augusta, drive Route 17  toward Rockland. Entering Rockland, go straight through the first set of traffic lights. At the stop sign, turn right onto Broadway/Route 1A Bypass. Travel south on Broadway going straight through 2 traffic lights. At the third light, take a left onto Limerock Street. Take the second left onto White Street. The Knox Center is located at 6 White Street. The main entrance to the Long Term Care Unit and Memory Unit is under the covered drive. The main entrance to the Skilled Rehabilitation Unit is on the lower level at the base of the covered drive.

From Portland: (82 miles) Take I-295 North to the  Coastal Route Exit (#28) in Brunswick (formerly known as Exit 22). This road turns into U.S. Route 1 North. Follow U.S. Route 1 into Rockland. It will take about an hour for this part of the trip. When you arrive in Rockland, you will need to take a left at the first set of traffic lights. This is Broadway –  also known as Route 1A Bypass. On Broadway, take a right at the first set of lights onto Limerock Street. On Limerock Street, take your second left onto White Street. The Knox Center is located at 6 White Street. The main entrance to the Long Term Care Unit and Memory Unit is under the covered drive. The main entrance to the Skilled Rehabilitation Unit is on the lower level at the base of the covered drive.
